A Dayton (OH) fire captain was thrown 20-30 feet when he was struck by a vehicle while responding to a crash, reports whiotv.com.
Captain Barry Cron is listed in serious condition at Miami Valley Hospital. Officials said Cron was speaking to a victim of a crash who was inside a vehicle. That vehicle was then struck by another, and it pushed the first vehicle into the captain.
His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening, officials said.
Cron has been with the Dayton fire department since 1992 and was promoted to captain in November of 2012, officials said. He works out of Station 13.
Three vehicles were also involved in a crash. One person inside the vehicle involved in the initial crash was taken to an area hospital with injuries not considered life threatening. No other injuries were reported.
