Deadly Bethpage (NY) Small Plane Crash

The pilot of a single-engine plane was killed and his passenger seriously injured after the plane crashed onto the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) tracks at South Oyster Bay Road in Bethpage, New York, early Sunday morning August 16.

The plane left from an airport in Suffolk County but experienced engine trouble and was looking to return or find another runway to land.

he plane clipped an LIRR crossing light stanchion before smashing into the tracks just east of the Hicksville (NY) train station.

Miraculously, a passenger was ejected before impact and was found injured in the roadway just outside the crash scene. Bethpage firefighters extinguished a fire that erupted in the wreckage, but were unable to save the pilot.
