Death Sentence for Arsonist in Deadly CA Wildfire

A violent felon was sentenced to death for starting a 2003 wildfire that burned more than 1,000 homes and killed five people in San Bernardino, California.

Rickie Lee Fowler, 31, a meth user since grammar school who is already serving three life terms for another attack, didn’t display any emotion in the courtroom Monday, according to a Los Angeles Times report (http://lat.ms/TRMUoY).

The Old fire broke out October 25, 2003, forcing the evacuation of more than 30 communities and 80,000 people. It came as firefighters were battling a fire in Upland and Rancho Cucamonga. Six men died of heart attacks, although prosecutors said one could not be directly linked to the stress of the fire.
