Sidewinder Photography recently shared some photos from the scene of a home explosion right across the street from a fire station in the village of Delanson, New York.
The Delanson Fire Department received multiple calls for a reported house explosion across the street from the firehouse. As firefighters arrived, they immediately called mutual aid to assist. The front and side of the building were blown away from the home about 25 feet into the neighbor’s yard and the Main Street that runs through the middle of the village.

Construction Concerns for Firefighters: Structural Collapse
Multiple fire departments from Schenectady County and Schoharie County responded to the scene to assist with the house explosion. Neighbors helped assist a woman off the second floor of the home to safety before firefighters arrived. Command requested members from USAR team to the scene along with Rotterdam District No. 2 for RIT.
Firefighters immediately set up a safety zone around the building as there was a hazard of it collapsing on one side. While this was going on, firefighters set up a full tanker operation to supply the scene with adequate amounts of water. Firefighters had heavy fire in the rear of the building and were only able to make exterior attacks on the building because the structural integrity was compromised.
Command requested Cobleskill Fire Department to the scene with their truck company to hit the fire in the attic area. Firefighters remained on the scene for most of the evening into the early hours of the next day. The building is a complete loss and the explosion is under investigation at this time by county investigators and New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control.
No firefighters were injured at the scene and the fire department across the street sustained no damage from the explosion. Debris was found in the fire department’s parking lot, up to 50 feet away from the building.
