While operating at another fire scene on Thursday, June 2, at around 1525 hours, Detroit’s Squad 3 reported a working fire in a church around the block. Squad 3 requested a box alarm to Meldrum & Pulford for a three-story church going.

Engine 46 stretched on the church. Chief 1 arrived on the scene, assumed incident command, and requested two more engines for manpower. Crews made a interior attack, but because of heavy fire condition in the attic of the building, Chief 1 pulled all crews out of the building. He requested a second alarm and set up for defensive operations. Companies set up to protect the exposure dwelling, and Ladder 7 and Ladder 31 were set up for aerial operations. This fire was brought under control in approximately three hours.
