Just after 5 p.m. on August 5, companies in Detroit’s 6th Battalion responded to reports of a fire in a commercial building on Van Dyke at Harper.

The first company on scene found a large vacant commercial building, approximately 200 x 60, going throughout. Firefighters took an immediate defensive posture since the fire was already through the roof.

An additional truck with a platform was requested to the scene for tower ops. Smoke could be seen for miles from the fire. There were no injuries reported on the scene.
