Structural Firefighting: Detroit Companies Control Vacant Dwelling Fire

Story and photos by Dennis Walus

On February, 21 at around 1200 hours, Detroit 7th Battalion companies were dispatched to a reported dwelling fire at Parkinson & Michigan.

While en route, Ladder 22 reported smoke showing and that the first engine would be stretching.

Chief 7 arrived on the scene and established incident command and reported a vacant two-story dwelling going throughout and ordered defensive operations and requested an additional company for staffing.

Engine 29 arrived on the scene and stretched on the dwelling. Ladder 22 was set up for water tower operations and Engine 29 operated its monitor on the fire.

Companies operated for about an hour and half to bring this fire under control. Engine 29, 55, 39; Ladder 22; Squad 2; and Chief 7 responded to this incident.
