In preparation for the annual slew of pre-Halloween fires, the Detroit (MI) Fire Department is readying a foam solution to use with its water spray as part of Angels’ Night response preparations.
According to a report in the Detroit News, Detroit used foam in fighting fires regularly until 10 years ago but had to stop because of budget cuts (READ MORE). Although expensive to use, the foam allows firefighters to more easily extinguish fires, a major plus when dealing with serial arsons.
Detroit is chronically plague with arson fires during the Halloween season. Last year, there were 169 arson or suspicious fires, a fire official told the Detroit News. The night immediately before Halloween is referred to as Devil’s Night; public safety agencies use the term Angels’ Night to refer to their efforts to mitigate these arsons and other criminal acts.
