On Wednesday, March 8, 2017, Detroit fire companies were operating at several scenes because of high winds in the area, including a second-alarm apartment fire. While operating at the second-alarm fire, crews were alerted to two dwellings on fire at Kilbourne and Chalmers.

Chief 1 picked up from the second alarm to respond and investigate. Upon arrival, two vacant dwelling were found going throughout extending to a third dwelling. Engine 41 arrived on the scene and stretched on the fire. Staffing was limited because of the several other incident going on, and numerous down power lines interfered with operations at this scene. Companies stopped the fire from spreading at the second dwelling, but the first dwelling was a total loss.
