According to a report from KSL5, a motel in Richfield, Utah, that was recently converted into low-income housing was struck by a massive fire Monday night which left the structure a total loss, displacing 70 residents and causing a roof collapse.
The fire erupted at Ville 647, at 647 S. Main Street, at around 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Crews from several agencies were on scene for the night to monitor for hot spots and investigate the damage.
Two residents were transported to a local hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
One area resident said the fire was initially small, but within the hour, fire crews called the building a total loss.
Mayor Bryan Burrows said approximately 40 firefighters responded to the scene, with 20 law enforcement members from surrounding cities and Sevier County also arriving.
City officials have expressed concerns with the building, which was recently purchased by an investor and turned into low-income housing.
In just the past two weeks, the city rezoned the building under the conditions the owner would bring it up to code.
