Drawn by Fire: Decompression Pressure

Firefighters with boiling pot for a head

What healthy ways do you decompress? Here are some helpful hints to releasing the pressure from day-to-day stress and calls that I have found helpful:

  1. Relaxation with meditation. It not only relieves stress and anxiety but also is shown to improve mood. Just breathe!
  2. Find some fun! Laugh. Play. Smile. We forget how to be kids.
  3. Pet a furry friend. Studies show that petting an animal for 15 minutes releases feel-good chemistry and lowers stress. It would appear dog breath and cat fur are good for your well-being!
  4. Human touch. I’ll let you figure this one out!
  5. Find some alone time (or someone to talk to, for the extroverts out there). Take a little time to collect your thoughts and clear your head or get that crap off your chest and out of the pressure cooker.
  6. Walk. Run. Jump. Sweat! Just spending time outdoors or in a gym will greatly improve your pressure relief valve’s operation.

There are many more healthy ways (I can’t stress that enough) to decompress. Share some of what you do so others may benefit from your insight.

STAY FIRED UP, and don’t let the pressure to decompress create even more pressure! Breathe, and just let off some steam.
