Drawn by Fire: Scary Change

Monster with firefighter

Change can be scary. Challenging the status quo can be scary, too. But you know what else is scary? Operating under archaic procedures that can hinder your department’s or crew’s effectiveness on the fireground. We should never make changes for the sake of making changes, but we must continue to learn and train on new techniques and study the current science of what we do so we can continually evaluate whether we are on the right path for our organization. Unfortunately, the trap that so many fall into is one of apathy and fear of change, especially if it’s hard, uncomfortable, or expensive. Train, learn, and experience new things outside of your department—it’s the only way we can grow and better serve our public and firefighters.

STAY FIRED UP and never let the change monster scare you into apathetic submission
