Drawn by Fire: That B Shift Talk

Dalmatian with a funny hairdo

There will always be a fine line between continuing traditions and hazing—and I’m not here to debate the implications of either. To be candid, I am little torn as to if certain “traditions” should still be allowed or not. I can’t say that I personally am against these “traditions” with caveats like no opportunity for bodily injury or personal or public humiliation. There is something to be said for shared kitchen table banter, laughs, or well-placed water balloon creating a more cohesive unit and putting firefighters on a common ground. But can it go too far? You bet!

Like I discuss in my FDIC International class Be The Target, just because you have an idea doesn’t mean it’s a good one! There are repercussions to your actions and retributions can and have occurred.

STAY FIRED UP and think twice before you act, because it may be your last act in the firehouse.
