The hazards of operating and positioning apparatus and personnel are well documented with numerous fatalities and injuries occurring all too frequently. This sample intersection accident allows your crew to discuss and prepare an incident response to a head-on accident.
Position apparatus, identify the traffic control patterns and equipment that would be used, and the interaction with local police that would be necessary to safely control this incident. Add additional resources and your local procedures to this exercise and discuss all of the possible hazards associated with an extrication/multiple-patient incident scene.

Forest Reeder began his fire service career in 1979. He currently serves as Battalion Chief / Director of Training & Safety with the Pleasantview (IL) Fire Protection District (www.plvw.org) and is the Director of Training for Southwest United Fire Districts (www.sufd.org).
