The uncle of a deputy fire chief in Revere died in a three-alarm fire that tore through a home early Friday, reports wcvb.com (http://bit.ly/1A0WnNp)
Revere Deputy Fire Chief Chris Bright said his uncle, Dennis Toomey, who was in his 80s, died in the fire on Reservoir Avenue. Bright said he and other firefighters rescued his other uncle, Robert Toomey.
“Deputy Bright arrived on the scene and pulled one occupant out of the building, but he just couldn’t get any farther with such heavy fire conditions,” Doherty said.
Firefighters say the bitter cold made battling the blaze more difficult, and some hydrants were buried in snow.
“We had extreme difficulty with the water supply — between frozen hydrants, and we had a truck parked on a hydrant and they had to dig out a couple,” Doherty said.
Part of the house’s roof has collapsed.
