Elderly Woman Found Dead After NC House Fire

According to a report from WGHP, an investigation has begun after a fire in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, that killed an 81-year-old woman Wednesday night.

In a statement from the Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD), the Winston-Salem Fire Department responded to the home on Renigar Street around 7:30 p.m. for a report of fire. Once extinguished, WSFD members discovered Barbara Harmon, 81, dead inside the home.

WSPD responded to Renigar Street and have now taken over the investigation because of “circumstances surrounding” the fire, according to a news release. Neighbors said the building was a group home.

It is not known if anyone else was in the home as it was engulfed.
