Endowment program provides for visiting scholars/practitioners
Worcester Polytechnic Institute will be opening its classroom doors to experts in fire protection engineering through a newly established distinguished scholar endowment program.
Through the endowment, the Worcester, Mass, school plans to invite several experts to teach and to write. Unlike a traditional endowed professorial chair, which would sponsor a visiting scholar for a long period of time, this program is designed for scholars or practitioners in the area of fire protection engineering to stay for varied, shorter lengths of time, says David A. Lucht, director of WPI’s Center for Firesafety Studies.
A S 20,000 contribution from the PI.C Educational Foundation was the seed money for the endowment, which is named for Dr. Howard W. Emmons, a charter member of the WPI Firesafety Board of Advisors.
