Explosion at MN Paper Mill Kills One

More than 14 fire departments responded Monday to an explosion and fire at Verso Paper mill in Sartell (MN) in what the fire chief is labeling the biggest fire he’s seen, reports SCTimes.com (http://on.sctimes.com/JNHeCw).

The Associated Press (http://bit.ly/LR4QZc) reports that one person was killed in the explosion and that five were injured.

SCTimes.com details that the fire is about 90 percent contained, but fighting the fire has been hampered by the building’s instability. The plan is to remove the shell of the building and fight the fire from the outside.

The response of 14 departments has enabled for crew rotation and much-needed breaks for firefighters.

The fire department also got help from the State Patrol helicopter, which did 10 water drops on the building.
