Two elderly people were killed Monday in a large fire at an apartment building in Aurora, Colorado. Fifteen others suffered minor to moderate injuries in the fire.
According to the Denver FOX affiliate (http://bit.ly/QBVQu6), heavy flames were seen from the fourth floor of the Fitz Apartments, which is directly across from the University of Colorado-Denver Anschutz Medical Campus, when firefighters arrived before 11 p.m.
A number of people jumped to escape the flames. Firefighters made numerous rescues. Paramedics treated patients for injuries suffered as a result of jumping as well as smoke inhalation. One woman who jumped broke both legs.
Some neighbors also assisted with rescues.
