Father of Black Sunday Firefighter Seeks FDNY Memorial for Son

Retired FDNY Deputy Chief Joseph DiBernardo told PIX 11 he wants his son’s name included on the FDNY’s “Wall of Heroes,” which honors firefighters who died in the line of duty. Joey DiBernardo died last November, nearly seven years after he was forced to jump from the top floor of a burning building in the Bronx during the “Black Sunday” fire.

DiBernardo, an FDIC instructor, was one of six firefighters forced to jump from the top floor of a burning building on East 178th Street during a winter blizzard in January 2005.
