Firefighters with the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) responded to an apartment fire that went to five alarms and left several people injured.
The fire at at 617 West 141 Street in Manhattan began in the early morning hours, according to FDNY Chief of Department John Hodgens. Crews found a well-advanced fire on the top floor (the sixth). The fire quickly extended into the space above the ceiling and the cockloft, rapidly spreading throughout the building.
Approximately 200 Fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene. There were reportedly seven minor injuries to civilians and two minor injuries to firefighters. The building is being evaluated for structural integrity.
