A Brooklyn (NY) firefighter who got in trouble for wearing “Merit Matters” T-shirts has been fire from the Fire Department of New York (FDNY).
The New York Daily News (http://nydn.us/1yxgwVU) reports that Thomas Buttaro, who was been on the job since 1998, was terminated for wearing offensive shirts bearing “Merit Matters” logos in his Crown Heights firehouse more than 50 times over a 10-month period in 2012. The T-shirts were described as being anti-affirmative action.
Buttaro told the paper he did nothing wrong and said firefighters’ attire to and from work has always been unregulated.
