FDNY Firefighters Battle Five-Alarm Queens Fire

Firefighters with the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) responded to a fire that went to five alarms in Flushing, Queens, and FirstOnScenePhotos shared some images from the scene.

The fire generated thick, black smoke as flames gutted a building where more than 30 business kiosks operated. The fire occurred on the first floor of the building on Main Street near Roosevelt Avenue in Flushing just before 6:10 a.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2022.

Two neighboring businesses sustained severe damage and the building partially collapsed.

FDNY Acting Chief of Operations Richard Blatus said crews would remain on the scene for hours putting out hot spots.

Some 200 firefighters responded to fight the flames. At least three suffered minor injuries.

The thick, black smoke not only rose into the sky but seeped below ground inside the subway station, halting #7 train service at the height of the morning commute.
