FEMA names new NFA board members

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently announced the names of the members of the U.S. Fire Administration`s National Fire Academy (NFA) Board of Visitors. New appointees are Superintendent Billy Frost, South Carolina Fire Academy, Columbia, SC; Chief Donald Oliver, North Carolina Fire/Rescue Services, Wilson, NC; and Chief Neil Svetanics, St. Louis (MO) Fire Department.

The following members were reappointed: Chief Warren McDaniels, New Orleans (LA) Fire Department; Robert J. Sledjeski, Baltimore (MD) Fire Fighters Local 734; and Chairperson Cynthia A. Wilk, New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.

Also serving on the board are Captain Karl J. Berardi, Manchester Fire Department, Bedford, New Hampshire, and Dr. Robert S. Fleming, Rowan College of New Jersey, West Chester, Pennsylvania, a member of the East Whiteland Volunteer Fire Association.

Alternate board members are Jerry Laughlin, National Fire Protection Association, and Steve Ennis, National Volunteer Fire Council. Alternates can attend all meetings and have voting rights when principal board members are absent.

The board, which meets several times each year, reviews NFA programs, facilities, and organization structure to determine if the NFA`s basic mission–to advance the professional development of fire service personnel and of other persons engaged in fire prevention and control activities–is being carried out effectively and efficiently.
