Three firefighters were injured trying to rescue an aging couple from a house fire in Cherokee County, Georgia. The firefighters fell into the basement of the Woodstock home while searching for the fire victims, both of whom died in the fire.

One firefighter, David Gray, is still in ICU at a local hospital, struggling to survive; he suffered smoke inhalation and lung injuries when bricks struck him during the collapse. Two other Cherokee County firefighters, Matthew Richter and David Burnaugh, were treated and released.

According to one report, the three engine company firefighters were on the porch of the home when it gave way beneath them, sending them tumbling into the basement below. The adjacent wall and canopy fell on top of the men.
