Fifteen Fire Departments Brave Heat to Extinguish CT Storage Facility Fire

According to a report from WTNH, firefighters from more than a dozen departments responded to a fire at a self-storage facility on River Street in Thomaston, Connecticut, early Monday.

Fire officials said the fire started around 2 a.m. Fifteen departments from around the area were on scene, rotating members out to let them cool off because of the statewide heat advisory in effect.

Smoke continued to emanate from the fire inside the building and toward Route 8. An excavator was seen pulling apart pieces of the structure to help firefighters get to the main part of the fire.

Officials also said the storage unit’s lower level contained vehicles and boats, while the upper level contained home furnishings and other items.

No injuries have been reported, and there was no one near the area at the time of the fire.

The cause is now under investigation, but officials think the fire began on the lower level.
