Fire at Historic WA Tavern Labeled Arson

A fire that destroyed a historic tavern in Skykomish, WA, appears to be arson. KIRO-TV reports that officials believe a fire was set to cover the theft of $3,300 at Whistling Post tavern, which was established in 1903. (http://bit.ly/IpRt16)

A firefighter suffered a hand burn and smoke inhalation at the scene and is reported in satisfactory condition at a Seattle hospital.

Firefighters reported early Tuesday morning and were immediately suspicious when they found an open door. The fire spread quickly through the wood frame building; leaving no recourse but to pour on water from the outside. Firefighters watched as the roof and second floor collapsed.
