SIOUX CITY — An overnight fire at the Singing Hills Walmart in Sioux City caused a temporary closure of the store’s pharmacy on Tuesday.
Sioux City Fire Rescue responded to a call at 12:42 a.m., after the business had closed for the day.
“It was from some loose batteries in one of the cabinets in the pharmacy. Must have made contact with another metal source then overheated and ignited some combustibles,” Sioux City Fire Deputy Fire Marshal Lt. John Nelson told The Journal Tuesday.
Nelson said three engines, two trucks, ambulance and the assistant chief responded to the fire which was contained to the cabinet but activated a sprinkler head that kept it in check.
Nelson said it took firefighters a little bit of time to get to the fire because the pharmacy was closed.
At 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, the Facebook account for the Singing Hills Walmart posted: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Pharmacy at the Singing Hills Walmart will be temporarily closed. Our South Sioux City (402-494-8850) and Floyd (712-239-8913) locations will be happy to help during this time.”
