FARMVILLE, Va. (AP) � A fire at Longwood (VA) College on April 24 destroyed the historic Rotunda in Ruffner Hall, considered to be the most historically significant building on the campus, and the adjoining Tabb dormitory. The French dormitory received extensive damage, as did the Granger Building, which housed faculty offices and classrooms. Ruffner Hall was undergoing major renovations at the time of the fire.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Fire companies from Prince Edward, Cumberland, Charlotte, Appomattox, and Nottoway counties also responded to the fire, which was initially reported to dispatchers about 9:20 p.m. [Source: �Fire destroys Rotunda, Dorm at Longwood (College) (VA), Richmond (VA) Times-Dispatch Apr 24, 2001]
