Jan. 29—HARTFORD — A fire on South Whitney Street on Wednesday displaced three families, a fire official says.

Hartford Fire District Chief Mario Oquendo Jr. said firefighters were called to the 200 block of the street in the city’s West End at 3:43 p.m. for a report of a fire a multi-family residence.

Oquendo said arriving units encountered a working structure fire on the B side of the first floor. He said the fire was quickly knocked down, extinguished and placed under control, adding that no one was found when firefighters searched the building.

There were no injuries during the incident, Oquendo said, but seven adults and two children were displaced from their homes by the fire. He said the American Red Cross and the city’s Special Services Unit are working to assist them.

Oquendo said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
