Fire Chief Cites Rapid Deteriorating Conditions at Fire That Killed Toledo (OH) Firefighters

At a press conference Monday, Fire Chief Louis Santiago cited “rapid deterioration of conditions” at a Sunday fire that killed two Toledo (OH) firefighters in the line of duty.

The Toledo Blade ( said chief and Toledo Mayor D. Michael Collins acknowledged the public’s desire to know why the two firefighters died, but they asked for patience and also privacy for the men’s families. Fire Engineering sources have likewise demurred on the matter, saying it is too early in the investigation to discuss the incident.

Chief Santiago said officials have not determined an official cause for the fire but that an investigation would continue.
