Somerville Fire Department (SFD) crews arrived on scene to discover heavy smoke throughout the vestibule. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire, but have hinted that it may have been started by candles that were burning in the building at the time.

SFD Chief Charles Breen credited a box attached to the church’s fire alarm for alerting the department of the blaze.

No injuries have been reported.
