Fire Destroys CA Walnut Processing Facility

A massive fire broke out Sunday morning at the Dale Packing Inc. walnut processing facility in Sutter County.

The fire started at around 6 a.m. near Garden Highway and Wilson Road, KCRA reports.

The fire at the 30,000-square-foot facility posed challenges because of its location. It is located down a narrow driveway and lacked any nearby hydrants, forcing firefighters to establish a tanker shuttle to provide roughly a half-million gallons of water to extinguish the fire,

Firefighters contained the fire to the main building, which is surrounded by walnut orchards and green grass. However, due to the heavy fuel load of walnuts and storage bins, the building was a total loss. No injuries were reported.
