Evacuations were ordered at a Westside hospital due to a structure fire, reports CBS Los Angeles.
Firefighters received reports of smoke at Southern California Hospital at Culver City at 3828 Delmas Terrace between Venice Boulevard and Hughes Avenue around 1 p.m., according to a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson.
Patients were seen evacuating the building formerly known as the Brotman Medical Center while firefighters responded to the scene, officials said.
The Los Angeles Fire Department sent 55 firefighters to the hospital, according to the LAFD’s Brian Humphrey.
Officials at Southern California Hospital at Culver City explained in a statement that, “smoke from a localized fire, believed to be caused by a contractor doing renovation work on the roof, forced the evacuation of about 215 patients today.”
Staff members and patients were allowed to return to the first and second floors of the hospital. Crews are currently working to determine when patients will be able to return to other floors of the building.
