Feb. 18—The Clark County Commission today ratified the appointment of Billy Samuels as the new fire chief of the Clark County Fire Department.

Samuels, who started in 2001 with the department, has served the last five years as deputy chief over the Office of Emergency Management.

“Fire Chief Billy Samuels has been a public servant for more than two decades and has demonstrated a deep commitment to the fire service mission,” commission Chairman Tick Segerblom said in a statement. “That commitment, along with his skilled leadership, have earned him the respect of his fellow firefighters and the community in which he was born, raised, and educated.”

Samuels is credited with helping plan for major events, including New Year’s Eve on the Strip, the Las Vegas Grand Prix and the Super Bowl in 2024.

And in 2017, he ran the operations for the Family Assistance Center after the mass shooting on the Strip that immediately killed 58 and injured hundreds of others.

“The men and women that serve in our fire department are incredible, and I am truly honored by this opportunity,” Samuels said in a statement. “I look forward to working together with all of our community partners as CCFD continues to provide exceptional service to our community.”

Samuels is a Las Vegas native who graduated from Valley High School and UNLV.

“He is the definition of a hometown hero,” Segerblom said.
