Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is facing pressure to reinstate recently fired Fire Chief Kristin Crowley, KTLA reports.
Mayor Bass cited Crowley’s failure to take appropriate actions and communicate effectively during the recent Los Angeles wildfires as the reasons for her termination. Several city councilors, however, argue the chief is being blamed for things that were not under her control.
The controversy comes just weeks after Crowley publicly raised concerns about the fire department’s lack of resources, stating that the city was ill-equipped to handle major firestorms. She highlighted budget cuts of $17 million and the need for over 60 new fire stations, calling the situation unsustainable.
The City Council could vote to reinstate her, and if unsuccessful, Crowley may pursue legal action, including allegations of gender-based demotion and violations of public policy.
