Youngstown (OH) Fire Chief Avoids Discipline for Racially Charged Argument

Youngstown Fire Chief Barry Finley will not face disciplinary action following allegations of using racially charged language during a dispute with union representatives Jon Racco and Jordan Thomas.

Law Director Lori Shells Simmons’ investigation found a history of tension between the chief and the union, but anonymous interviews revealed mixed opinions, with many ranking officers expressing support for Chief Finley while also acknowledging his temper, WFMJ reports.

Youngstown Mayor Tito Brown backed the decision, citing a long-standing environment of distrust and antagonism within the department.

While the union criticized the city for failing to maintain a safe and discrimination-free workplace, Simmons recommended professional and sensitivity training for all department members to address the ongoing discord.
