Fire Police Officer Dies after Lightning-Sparked Fire at PA Chemical Plant

A fire police officer suffered a heart attack and died after leaving the scene of a chemical plant fire in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

The victim was David Wintz, according to a report from the Philadelphia Inquirer (http://bit.ly/Lc6BCS), Wintz, 65, was helping direct traffic during a lightning-sparked fire overnight at Dow Chemical’s Rohm and Haas Bristol Plant. He went home after complaining about not feeling well, suffered a heart attack, and later died.

The fire blanketed the area with fumes for hours, but no nearby homes were evacuated. Schools in the area were closed, however. The incident began when lightning struck two chemical storage containing tanks ethyl acrylate and butyl acrylate, which are used in the production of a coating material.
