Fire reports stress lessons

Fire reports stress lessons

Lessons learned are at the heart of three fire investigation reports available from the U.S. Fire Administration. The first three reports compiled by TriData Corp. of Arlington, Va., under a USFA contract cover the Detroit warehouse fire that killed three firefighters on March 12 [see “Detroit’s Fatal Warehouse Fire,” Fire Engineering, June 1987]; the evacuation of Nanticoke, Pa., on March 24 because of a metalprocessing plant fire; and a hotel fire in McAllen, Texas, on February 25 in which smoke detectors helped alert occupants early in the incident.

The series will study fire cause, fire protection systems, building design, firefighter protective equipment, firefighting tactics, and occupant response during the fire, among other things.
