Firefighter Among Eight Injured in New York City Fire

A firefighter and seven other people were injured in a high-rise fire in the TriBeCa neighborhood of Manhattan, New York.

Fire Department of New York (FDNY) firefighters responded to a fire that broke out at Independence Plaza North at 310 Greenwich St. around 8:40 p.m. Sunday, according to a report on WPIX (http://bit.ly/1ui1CpC).

Five people were transported for smoke-related injuries, while three others refused treatment.

A fire department spokesman says the fire appeared to start on the building’s fifth floor, but smoke from the fire billowed throughout the 39-story, 400-unit structure.
