A firefighter was reportedly one of three people injured today in a three-alarm fire at a building in Virginia Gardens, according to reports.
WSVN reports that the fire occurred at 66th Avenue and Northwest 36th Street.
According to the report, it appeared that there was a training operation with Miami-Dade County firefighters, international freighters, and trainees.
The injured were transported to an area facility, and then airlifted to another hospital.
According to NBC 6, firefighters were reportedly training at the three-story warehouse building near the airport. A person who was not supposed to be there was reportedly inside the warehouse, and this individual was injured. NBC 6 sources indicated that the injured member may have been one of the international trainees involved in the evolution.
CBS News Miami reported that the building in question had been vacant, locked, and closed to the public since March 2020, and that Miami-Dade Fire Rescue had been granted access to conduct training evolutions at the site.
According to the Miami Herald, a 28-year-old relative of a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue firefighter died during the fire.
