Firefighter Dead, Others Injured in Three-Alarm Brooklyn (NY) Warehouse Fire

One firefighter was killed and several others injured while battling a three-alarm warehouse fire Monday in Brooklyn, New York.

Two firefighters were in critical condition and four were in serious condition when they were taken an area hospital, CBS 2 reports (http://cbsloc.al/IHJuNV).

Sources told CBS 2 that a Fire Department of New York (FDNY) lieutenant was one of the firefighters inside the warehouse battling the fire. When he emerged he reportedly went into cardiac distress. He was taken to the hospital and died.

UPDATE: The New York Times (http://nyti.ms/HIpfez) identifies the firefighter as Fire Lt. Richard Nappi, 47. Nappi served the Fire Department for 17 years and worked as a fire academy instructor. He is survived by a wife, a 12-year-old daughter and an 11-year old son.

The New York Times details that the fire was concentrated in an area stacked with cardboard boxes. It was suppressed by the building’s sprinkler system, said a fire official. Nappi was commanding a hose line when he bang to feel dizzy.
