A Louisiana firefighter has developed an iPhone app to help departments manage personnel and resources.
iPar (Instant Personnel Accountability Reporting) was developed over the last three years by Captain Tim Geisler with the Prairieville Fire Department, according to a report from WAFB (http://bit.ly/PZJEie).
“I got a piece of paper and started sketching things out, kind of a rough draft, and it just snowballed from there,” Geisler said.
The app, available in the App Store, allows any firefighter to manage personnel and resources when on the scene of a working fire. Users can set up individual assignments and track objectives from the palm of their hand. After the incident is completed, a report is automatically generated and can be saved or emailed.
Geisler says iPar’s $39.99 price tag is an especially affordable option for small or volunteer departments that may have limited resources. A free version of the app, iPar Lite, gives departments the chance to test certain features before committing to the paid version.
