Firefighter Killed After Being Struck by Falling Tree at Rum Creek Fire

Firefighter fatality

A wildland firefighter with the Oregon Department of Forestry was killed while operating at the Rum Creek Fire in Oregon, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.

On August 18, 2022, shortly after 4:00 p.m., dispatchers received information regarding Firefighter Logan Taylor, who was critically injured after being struck by a tree on the fire, which was located north of Galice, Oregon. Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue immediately deployed a helicopter and personnel to the fire. Upon their arrival, Taylor was airlifted out of the mountainous terrain to an awaiting Mercy Flights helicopter, which then transported him to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. Despite lifesaving efforts, however, Taylor passed away from the injuries he sustained. Taylor, 25, was the operator of Sasquatch Reforestation, a company that contracted with the Oregon Department of Forestry.

Earlier in the month, Firefighter Collin Hagan of the BLM-Craig Interagency Hotshot Crew was killed by a falling tree at Oregon’s Big Swamp Wildfire.
