UPDATE (2:40 p.m.): The suspect involved in an armed barricade situation with police on Staten Island is dead, according to news reports. The 38-year-old gunman had come out of his home shooting again at officers around 11:45 a.m., the New York Post reported.
Fire Department of New York Lieutenant James Hayes, 54, was shot and taken to an area hospital, where he was in stable condition and was expected to survive, the report said. A release from the FDNY said that Hayes, of Engine 158, a 31-year veteran of FDNY who has been cited twice for bravery, was conducting a search for the fire and for potential victims.
ORIGINAL POST: A firefighter was shot during a standoff at a fire scene in Staten Island, New York.
The New York Daily News reports that a man U.S. marshals were trying to serve with a warrant began shooting after setting his home on fire Friday morning. Firefighters showed up after the man set the fire.
One member was shot twice in the leg and transported with nonlife-threatening injuries.
