Firefighter Who Perished in Howard County (MD) Fire Identified

Firefighter Nathan Flynn died after falling through the floor at a house fire in Howard County, Maryland.

The cause of the seven-alarm fire is still under investigation. Flynn, a 13-year veteran of the department fell through the first floor when he and his crew entered the dwelling. A Mayday was announced at 2:20 am. Firefighters were able to locate Flynn but were unable to remove him from the structure until 2:42 am. He was taken to an area hospital where he later died.

Flynn was well respected in his fire department and was known as a well-trained, well-disciplined firefighter who shared his knowledge with others at FDIC International.

Flynn is survived by several small children.

More than 100 firefighters responded to the fire this morning, including a rekindle at approximately 8:30 am.
