The fire occurred in an affluent community with many large houses in subdivisions that offered limited access for fire units and lacking in fire hydrants. Firefighters conducted a tanker shuttle operation.

The fire was apparently caused by an outdoor fire pit on a windy day that caused ignition of a wooden shake style roof.
