Firefighters responded late Monday evening to a four-alarm fire raging in a tire warehouse in Pleasantville, New Jersey, according to reports and social media posts.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they found the two-story building fully engulfed in flames, according to CBS News Philly. Residents of a nearby apartment were trapped by fire but ultimately able to escape. Firefighters rescued at least two people, the report said, and two firefighters sustained minor injuries.
The second floor of the warehouse collapsed onto itself and onto an apartment building, firefighters told reporters.
According to a release from the department, command arriving on scene at the fire found a large, two-story warehouse fully involved with potential to extend to three occupied multi-residential apartments. Because of the amount of heat and fire, occupants of the one exposure building were unable to exit and were found hanging out windows. Firefighters threw a ground ladder and assisted the occupants out.
Multiple large caliber handlines and aerials in flanking positions contained the fire to the fire building. The fire was brought under control just before 5 a.m. Numerous other agencies responded to the scene.
