Firefighters spent hours battling a massive scrap-metal fire early Monday at a recycling plant in Tampa, Florida.
The fire began around 4 a.m. when a heap of scrap metal caught on fire at OneSteel Recycling, according to a WTSP-TV report (http://on.wtsp.com/YiDKg6).
Thick smoke billowed from the scene all morning long, affording even residents of St. Petersburg a glimpse of the haze and a whiff of the smoke.
Firefighters managed to keep the fire from spreading beyond the scrap metal itself. Hazmat teams responded to the incident as well. Exposures included tanks of fertilizer and diesel fuel.
