Firefighters Battle Massive Fire at Abandoned IL Resort

Firefighters from numerous departments responded to a fire at a vacant resort Saturday in St. Charles, Illinois. Fire photographer Tim Olk shared photos from the scene.

Crews responding to the scene Saturday afternoon found fire coming from multiple areas of the building at the Pheasant Run Resort. Crews employed large handlines, portable monitors, and elevated master streams to control the fire, which was finally extinguished Sunday.

An investigation into the fire was ongoing, but Deputy Chief Erik Mahan told Daily Herald reporters that there was no evidence anyone had been living on the closed property before Saturday’s fire.

According to NBC Chicago, the resort closed in 2020 after serving the area for some decades.
